The National Police have arrested two men accused of carrying out two violent robberies in the south of Tenerife, one in a supermarket with a machete and the other at a hotel.
The suspects are now facing charges of armed robbery and intimidation.
Supermarket Robbery in Costa Adeje
The first incident took place at a supermarket in La Caleta, Costa Adeje, where the two men entered the premises with their faces covered and wearing gloves.
One of the suspects brandished a large machete to intimidate staff and customers. Following the robbery, the pair fled on a stolen 125cc motorcycle, taken the day before from the same area.
Police officers discovered the stolen motorcycle and other items linked to the crime in a remote and inaccessible location near the supermarket. CCTV footage from the supermarket and subsequent investigations led the police to identify both suspects.
Connection to Hotel Robbery
The investigation into the supermarket robbery uncovered similarities with a violent robbery committed earlier this summer at a hotel in the same area. In that incident, one of the perpetrators used the same machete, wore a motorcycle helmet to conceal their identity, and dressed in similar clothing. The suspects also fled the scene on another stolen motorcycle, which they later abandoned near the hotel.
Through detailed analysis of the suspects' physical appearances and their method of operation, investigators established a clear link between the two crimes. This connection enabled them to gather sufficient evidence to arrest both men.
Legal Proceedings
The detainees have now been brought before the judicial authorities. One of them already has a criminal record for burglary, further substantiating the charges against them.
Authorities have praised the meticulous work of the National Police in solving these cases and have urged businesses in the area to remain vigilant, encouraging the use of surveillance systems to aid in the prevention and resolution of such crimes.
