Two main access roads to Teide are still closed due to snow

The Tenerife Cabildo have informed that two of the main access roads to Mt Teide are still closed as cold temperatures and snow persist on the summits of the islands of Tenerife and La Palma, due to the DANA, an Isolated Depression at High Altitude, that is currently affecting the Canary Islands.

This depression has left a winter imprint in Las Cañadas, with Teide covered in snow from the peak to its slopes, and in the Izaña area. Due to this, the Highways department of the Cabildo has reported the closure of two of the main entrances to the National Park, due to ice on the roads.

These are the access via La Orotava on the TF-21 highway in the section from Ramón Caminero, as well as the TF-24 in La Esperanza, at the height of Los Loros.

The Cabildo has also ruled out launching 'Operation Snowfall' which is a park and ride bus service to see the snow to avoid traffic jams in the national park, because of the ice.
