Emergency Plan Activated Amid Strong Winds
Earlier today, the Tenerife Cabildo activated the Insular Emergency Plan (PEIN) due to strong wind gusts sweeping across the island. As a precaution, recreational areas, trails within the Corona Forestal, and access paths to Mount Teide, including the Telesforo Bravo trail leading to the summit, have been closed to the public.
The General Directorate of Emergencies for the Canary Islands issued a pre-alert for storms starting at 10:00am, based on forecasts from AEMET. It warns of strong winds, particularly in mid-altitude areas, northern slopes, Teide National Park, and Punta de Teno.
These winds, associated with a regional storm, may also affect lowland areas. The alert is expected to remain in effect until 9:00pm, though it could extend to midnight.
