In a remarkable showcase of global viticulture, two wines from Tenerife have been honoured as some of the best in the world at the first International Volcanic Wine Awards organized by the Wine Connection platform. Competing against entries from six countries and thirty different appellations, these Tenerife wines stood out alongside a distinguished selection from Ciudad Real, Spain, and Loncomilla, Chile.
The standout winner of the competition was Lagynos from Bodegas Reconquista, representing the Denomination of Origin (DO) Campo de Calatrava in Ciudad Real. Garnering an impressive 96 points, Lagynos was acclaimed as the highest-rated wine by the esteemed jury, according to a press release issued by the organisers on Monday.
Adding to Tenerife's accolades, Flor de Chasna Blanco Marmajuelo Premium from Cumbres de Abona, DO Abona, secured a commendable 95 points. Additionally, Marba Tinto Barrica from Bodegas Marba, DO Tacoronte-Acentejo, also from Tenerife, and Parinacota from Volcanes de Chile, produced in Chile's Maule Valley, received the prestigious 'Gran Oro' medal.
Beyond these top honours, the competition awarded five gold, six silver, and one bronze medals to other exceptional wines crafted in Spain, Italy, Hungary, and Portugal.
