Tenerife once again rose to the occasion last night as the Three Kings of the East brought magic, colour and joy to towns and cities across the island. Despite unsettled weather and intermittent rain, the traditional Twelfth Night celebrations were hailed as a resounding success, with thousands of families turning out to welcome Melchior, Gaspar and Balthasar.

Forecasts of rain, cloud and cooler temperatures prompted caution and contingency planning, but they did little to weaken the festive mood. As evening fell, umbrellas appeared alongside sweets and lanterns, and children waited patiently and enthusiastically for the long-anticipated arrival of the Kings.

Local councils adapted swiftly to the conditions, demonstrating organisation and commitment to ensuring that the celebrations went ahead safely and smoothly.

A night of celebration across the island

Across Tenerife, parades and receptions unfolded with energy and warmth, each municipality adding its own character to the occasion:

  • In Santa Cruz de Tenerife, the Three Kings greeted thousands after arriving by helicopter at the CD Tenerife football stadium, and the capital pressed ahead with its parade from 7.00pm. Crowds lined the streets, cheering as the Kings made their way through the city, supported by a strong municipal presence that ensured the event ran seamlessly.
  • San Cristóbal de La Laguna once again delivered one of the island’s most atmospheric celebrations. Following an official reception at the Town Hall, the parade set off at 6.30pm, delighting families with music, costumes and festive spectacle.
  • In the north, including La Victoria de Acentejo and Buenavista del Norte, heavier rain prompted a move indoors for parts of the programme. Even so, the celebrations retained their charm, with children able to meet the Kings and deliver their letters in warm, welcoming venues.
  • El Sauzal transformed its celebrations by relocating to the municipal theatre. The indoor event proved a hit, offering a cosy and joyful alternative that was warmly received by families.
  • In the south, Arona, Adeje and Granadilla de Abona went ahead with their traditional routes. Parades through main streets and squares attracted large crowds, proving that neither rain nor clouds could compete with the excitement of the night.
  • La Guancha opted for a sheltered reception, opening doors early to ensure families could enjoy the occasion comfortably and safely.
