UPDATE: Police finish search of junior school in San Isidro without finding a bomb

The Guardia Civil has concluded their search of the Isaac de Vega school in San Isidro without finding any explosive device, whose placement was reported by a person who called the school with the aim of "boycotting" the vaccination of pupils aged 5-11 as the vacuna bus was at the school.

This has been confirmed in statements sent to the media by the territorial director of Education of the province of Santa Cruz de Tenerife, Federico Delgado, who condemns this "sick joke and totally unjustified action”, saying it is “ a step too far” which alters the life of the school, its students, their families, as well as teachers and other workers.

Delgado detailed that during the search, 430 students from the school were evacuated to the nearest school to guarantee their safety, adding that the bomb warning has caused "nervousness and anxiety" in the children.

In a statement from the school sent to the families of the pupils, it is confirmed that the person who made the call literally said: “We have put a bomb so that they do not vaccinate our children.”

The CEIP Isaac de Vega in San Isidro in the south of Tenerife, has been evacuated due to a bomb threat. The school is currently cordoned off and the Guardia Civil bomb disposal department (GEDEX) is inspecting the premises. The threat coincides with the Vaccination Bus being outside the school this morning vaccinating 5–11-year-olds against Covid with parents’ permission.

According to a statement released by the school itself, they received a call from a person who claimed "we have planted a bomb in the school so that our children are not vaccinated."

Teachers and staff immediately took all the pupils out to safety and they are now at another school nearby called La Jurada, while the police are co-ordinating a search,

At this stage, it is not known if this is a sick hoax or real, but the authorities are treating it as a real emergency situation regardless, and an investigation into the source of the call has already started.
