Residents of Ten-Bel restore and reopen minigolf after 30 years in ruins

The community association called Costa del Silencio Limpia, comprising around thirty residents, has celebrated the completion of the restoration of Ten-Bel’s historic minigolf over the weekend, which was the first ever built in Tenerife.

The reopening was marked with a tournament and various activities, including an art exhibition featuring works by Olga Lvova and Norbert Pralow, as well as a raffle supported by local businesses.

The citizens' group, originally initiated by Hannelore Ottevaere, when she began collecting litter around the Chayofita urbanisation in September 2023, has since been dedicated to voluntarily cleaning and repairing neglected public spaces in the area that have suffered from abandonment over time.

In addition to restoring the ten holes of the Ten-Bel minigolf course, where, for now, visitors must bring their own clubs and balls, though efforts are underway to provide these soon, the group has also cleaned and pruned flowerbeds, and restored walls and staircases in the surrounding park. This includes the renovation of the old children's train station, which has now been transformed into a free outdoor library.

A Long-Awaited Revival

“We are still exhausted from all the work over the past few days, but very happy with the results and the number of people who came to enjoy the day and relive old memories,” said Hannelore. She emphasised that the minigolf is now open: “We made it beautiful, and it’s there to be enjoyed.”

The Belgian activist also expressed her gratitude for the presence of local councillors Clari Pérez and Rubén Delgado at the event, highlighting the success of the raffle, which was made possible thanks to generous contributions from local businesses: “We had so many prizes to give away that it took us more than two hours to distribute them all.”
