More than 300 motorhomes are expected to travel along the TF-1 motorway in Tenerife this Saturday, 22nd February, in a large-scale demonstration that will take them from the south of the island to Santa Cruz and back again, causing significant traffic disruption.
The protest has been organised by several associations and clubs linked to the motorhome community, including ACAT, Amigos de AC & Campers, A.C.R.A.L. Lanzarote, Caravaning Club Isla Bonita, and the Asociación de Campistas de Fuerteventura.
The demonstration follows a similar event held on Gran Canaria on Saturday, 8th February, where numerous associations came together to make their voices heard. Organisers say that the strong turnout on that occasion, alongside requests from their members, prompted them to plan a similar mobilisation on Tenerife, starting in the south and travelling to the capital before returning south.
Participants will gather at 9.30am at the El Gomero Service Station in Oroteanda Baja (Guargacho), in Las Chafiras. According to a survey conducted on Tuesday, the number of vehicles has already passed 300 and is expected to increase further.
The main aim of the protest is to draw attention to the concerns of the motorhome community in the Canary Islands. The organisers want the removal of signs they believe to be discriminatory and illegal, the creation of properly equipped parking areas with suitable dimensions for these vehicles, and the establishment of a network of spaces and environmental facilities that enable responsible usage.
They are also calling for changes to regional planning laws to allow designated rustic land to be used for higher-level sites, simpler facilities, and campsites.
