Man in critical condition after choking while dining at a restaurant in Puerto del Carmen
A 56-year-old man is in critical condition after suffering a choking incident while eating at a restaurant in Puerto del Carmen, in Lanzarote. The Canary Islands Emergency Services Coordination Centre (CECOES) received an alert at approximately 2:45pm reporting that a man had gone into cardiac arrest at the restaurant after choking.
CECOES immediately dispatched the necessary emergency resources to the location given, and a nurse in the 112 call centre gave remote assistance to the person who made the call, giving step-by-step instructions for performing resuscitation manoeuvres before the arrival of medical personnel.
Upon reaching the restaurant, paramedics confirmed that the man was still in cardiac arrest and continued with advanced CPR techniques and successfully restored his pulse.
Once stabilised, he was transported in critical condition to the Doctor José Molina Orosa Hospital in a medicalised ambulance where he is receiving urgent treatment.
The emergency response also involved Local Police officers who assisted medical personnel during the intervention.
