Two men, aged 45 and 22, have been arrested at Fuerteventura Airport on suspicion of drug trafficking. One of the detainees was acting as a 'mule', a term used to describe individuals who transport illegal substances, often by concealing them on or within their bodies.
The National Police became aware that one of the suspects was returning to the island, while the other waited in a car for him to arrive to receive the drugs he was carrying. According to an official statement from the police, the arrests were made when the first suspect approached the vehicle.
Further investigation revealed that the younger of the two suspects was responsible for organising the logistics that enabled the 'mules' to transport narcotics. His role included arranging transport to the airport using rent-a-cars and purchasing airline tickets.
During a body search at the police station, officers found 203 grams of cocaine hidden in the underwear of the suspect who had been acting as the 'mule'.
Following the discovery, both men, who already have criminal records, were detained on suspicion of drug trafficking and have been handed over to the appropriate judicial authorities for further legal proceedings.
