A 21-year-old man has been arrested by the National Police following a lengthy investigation, accused of sexually assaulting a Belgian tourist in February in Costa Adeje in the south of Tenerife.
The victim, a 47-year-old woman, sought help in a nearby bar shortly after the alleged incident, reporting that she had been attacked on a dead-end street.
Following her report, police secured the scene of the crime, where forensic specialists collected biological evidence deemed crucial to the investigation. The victim was taken by ambulance to hospital for medical examination and support.
According to the police report, the woman had met three men at around 1:00am in a food outlet in the south of Tenerife. About half an hour later, she agreed to go for a ride on a motorcycle with one of them. The suspect allegedly drove her to a dark, isolated street where, according to the victim’s statement, he sexually assaulted her before fleeing the scene.
Investigators later found key evidence left behind that contributed significantly to identifying him.
After several weeks of inquiries, the suspect was identified with the help of forensic evidence and the victim’s detailed description, which included a distinctive, colourful tattoo on his hand.
The man, who had no prior criminal record, was located and has since been arrested. He has now been brought before the relevant judicial authorities as the legal process moves forward.
