The Lidl supermarket chain is the latest to issue a warning to the public about a scam that is doing the rounds on WhatsApp in Spain, including the Canary Islands. Messages are circulating offering products at ridiculously low prices or jobs with attractive working conditions, which they are advising people not to respond to as they are not from them.
Unfortunately, the messages and advertisements appear to have come from reputable companies, and many people are fooled by them, not realising until it is too late.
Lidl have taken to Twitter saying: “We are not selling TVs for 1.95 euros. We do not advertise promotions on WhatsApp. Our communications only come through official channels. We never ask for people’s bank details, so these should not be given to anyone. If you have doubts, ask us!”
They also took the opportunity to issue a reminder that their Twitter account has a blue tick to show that it is genuine and distinguishes it from any fake ones.
Regarding job offers, Lidl says these are only advertised on its website at this address: https://empleo.lidl.es and never on messaging services including WhatsApp.
