Access to the summit of Mount Teide has been restricted after snow fell around the Pico del Teide and Altavista refuge during today’s storm.
The Tenerife Cabildo says only mountaineers with suitable winter equipment may go up to the peak. The snow was reported above 2,700 metres, where conditions can make high-altitude paths dangerous and difficult to cross.
The restriction applies to the summit area; visitors can still visit the wider Teide National Park. However, hikers should check the latest trail closures and access rules before setting out, as conditions can change quickly during unsettled weather.
Anyone planning a high-altitude walk should have the required winter gear and experience for the route. Ordinary walking shoes and clothing are not suitable for snow and icy ground.
The Cabildo has not announced when the summit restriction will be lifted. Check Tenerife ON or the Cabildo’s latest updates before travelling, and do not attempt to bypass closures or enter restricted trails.
