A group of off-road buggies has been caught driving illegally through a protected nature area in Lanzarote, near the village of Yaiza. Environmental officers spotted the convoy during a routine patrol in Los Ajaches Natural Monument, a well-known and environmentally sensitive area.

This part of the island is protected by law to help preserve its unique landscape and wildlife.

According to local rules, it's strictly forbidden to organise off-road vehicle tours with more than three vehicles in natural or rural areas. These rules are in place to avoid damage to the environment and protect the island's beauty for both residents and visitors.

Lanzarote’s Environment Councillor, Samuel Martín, stressed the importance of following the rules, especially during the busy summer season: "We cannot allow irresponsible activities to damage our natural spaces. These areas are part of what makes Lanzarote special, and we all have a duty to protect them," he said.

Martín also reminded tourists and tour companies that Lanzarote welcomes respectful tourism: "We want visitors to enjoy the island, but also to respect its nature, its culture, and its people."

If you’re planning to explore the island by buggy or other motor vehicles, make sure your tour is legal and sticks to approved routes. Fines can be issued for breaking the rules.
