From tomorrow, Monday, November 18th, the Tenerife Cabildo (Cabildo) will introduce an innovative free on-demand transport service in the municipalities of Fasnia, Arico, and Güímar, to provide flexible transport options for over 13,000 residents in areas with limited accessibility.
The service eliminates fixed routes, allowing it to adapt to users' specific needs. Operating during peak hours from 6:30am to 9:00am and 1:30pm to 3:00pm, the service connects passengers to the nearest bus stops of the island's primary transportation network.
The success of this pilot program could pave the way for expansion in 2025 to additional regions, including Tacoronte, El Sauzal, La Matanza, La Victoria, Santa Úrsula, Icod, and Isla Baja, further improving mobility in rural areas.
How It Works
Passengers can book their trips via the Ten+móvil mobile app or by calling the Operations Centre on 922 070 182, available Monday to Friday from 9:00am to 4:30pm. The system provides a convenient and user-friendly alternative for daily commutes, especially in remote areas.
This initiative is part of a broader effort by the Cabildo to enhance public transport across Tenerife. With an expected 80 million passengers projected for 2024, a 25% increase from 2023, TITSA, Tenerife’s public bus service, is also helping reduce private car usage.
Since the introduction of free public transport, approximately 33 million fewer car trips have been made annually, significantly alleviating traffic congestion and reducing environmental impact.
