Entertainment venues cleared by Police at midnight as Gran Canaria goes to Level 4

Last night at midnight, Gran Canaria moved to alert Level 4 restrictions due to Covid, and the police didn’t hang about in deciding to evict people from any bars that stayed open after 12 o’clock as they have been used to in Level 3. Entertainment venues in Las Palmas were cleared and closed just after midnight, as owners thought tonight was the first night that earlier closing applied.

Evictions took place across the capital but particularly in Calle La Pelota, in an area called Vegueta, where venues were above capacity with most people not wearing masks or respecting safety distances, the basic measures that everyone is aware of to contain the transmission of the virus.

The Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands announced on Tuesday that Gran Canaria and La Palma were both moving to Level 4 last night, so had plenty of time to prepare for the earlier closing time of midnight compared to 1am.

Due to this rise in the alert level, the City Council of Las Palmas announced a series of restrictions to contain Covid alongside the Government decreed regulations, which includes the closure of all entertainment venues, bars, and restaurants by midnight at the latest, and the Covid Certificate is required to go to them.

Group sizes are a maximum of 6 people (except for co-habitants) whether that is in the street, sitting at a table in or outside a bar or restaurant, or at home, and masks are mandatory in all public places indoors and outdoors.
