El Reducto Beach reopens for swimming after passing water quality tests

El Reducto Beach in Lanzarote has reopened to the public after authorities confirmed that the water is now safe for swimming. The beach had been temporarily closed since 23rd January due to contamination caused by wastewater discharges following heavy rainfall.

The closure was triggered when intense downpours led to the overflow of the Peña del Camello stormwater drain, located near the entrance of Parque Temático.

Unfavourable southerly winds pushed the contaminated water towards the coast instead of dispersing it out to sea, raising concerns over water quality.

Following thorough analyses, officials have determined that the conditions are now suitable for bathing again. As a result, warning signs have been removed, and the beach’s status flag has been changed, signalling that it is once again open to the public.

Authorities continue to monitor water quality and urge beachgoers to remain aware of official updates, particularly during periods of heavy rainfall, which can impact coastal conditions.
