The incidence rates have dropped again today with a lower number of new cases, and the IA7 for the islands is now 1,248.05 cases per 100,000 inhabitants and the IA14 is at 2,792.07.
What to do if my child belongs to a class at school with a positive case?
Due to the evolution of the sixth wave of coronavirus and the advancement of vaccination in the 5-11-year-olds, the Health Department for the Canary Islands has provided a guide for families whose children belong to a class with a confirmed positive case of COVID-19.
It advises that quarantine will not be carried out in the Infant and Primary school years, except if among the students there are any with severe pathologies.
Teaching will be temporarily suspended if there are at least five infections, or 20% of the pupils, in the class in the last 7 days. In this situation, quarantine will be established only for unvaccinated students or those who have had less than two doses.
Students over 12 years of age will only have to comply with quarantine if they are not fully vaccinated or if they are close contacts. It is very important to monitor the appearance of suspicious symptoms for 10 days after the last contact with the confirmed case.
During this period, it is recommended to postpone vaccination if scheduled. Likewise, social interactions should be limited, avoiding contact with vulnerable people in the 10 days after the last exposure.
Regardless of vaccination status, all close contacts must take extreme prevention and hygiene measures against COVID during the 10 days after the last exposure with the confirmed case, constantly using their masks. No diagnostic test or follow-up by the health service will be necessary unless suspicious symptoms appear.
