The police in Tenerife are investigating the discovery of the body of a dead man in a cave in the south of the island. It was found on Tuesday afternoon in the municipality of Adeje, in the south of Tenerife, and efforts are now underway to determine the circumstances surrounding the death.
The discovery was made shortly before 2:00pm in a cave near an old water reservoir that was historically used for irrigation at the agricultural estate of El Galeón, not far from the (IES) El Galeón school and the Costa Adeje Tourism Development Centre (CDTCA).
Officers from the Local Police and Guardia Civil cordoned off the area to begin their inquiries, and the deceased man has not yet been identified.
A medical professional attending the scene reportedly did not certify the death as being from natural causes, which has led to a judicial investigation. The case has been taken over by members of the Territorial Judicial Police Unit of the Guardia Civil in southern Tenerife.
Initial examinations of the body did not reveal any external signs of violence. However, to confirm the cause of death, the body has been transferred to the Institute of Legal Medicine (IML), where an autopsy will be conducted.
Authorities are continuing their investigations to establish both the identity of the deceased and the circumstances surrounding his death.
