The access roads to the Teide National Park in Tenerife have been reopened by the Cabildo after being temporarily closed due to snow and icy conditions.
The closures had affected key routes, including the TF-21 from La Orotava, the TF-24 through La Esperanza, and the TF-38 from Chío in the south of the island.
The Cabildo confirmed that road maintenance crews worked tirelessly throughout the weekend to clear accumulated snow and ice from the affected roads. Efforts also included the removal of rocks from landslides to ensure the safety of drivers and visitors.
While the roads are now open, authorities have urged motorists to exercise caution when driving through the area. They advise adherence to all road safety instructions and any official updates to avoid accidents.
The reopening comes as the Canary Islands brace for a change in the weather as a calima is entering the islands from the Sahara. AEMET has warned that the haze could dramatically reduce visibility across the region over the next few days. Drivers are advised to remain vigilant and prepared for potentially hazardous conditions caused by the conditions.
