AEMET warns of more heat this Thursday in the Canary Islands

Temperatures are set to rise across the Canary Islands today (Thursday), with highs reaching 30°C in Tenerife and 32°C in parts of Gran Canaria and Fuerteventura, according to the latest forecast from the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET).

Most of the archipelago can expect clear or mostly sunny skies, although there will be some patches of low cloud, particularly in northern areas. A light layer of calima at higher altitudes is also forecast over the eastern islands and Gran Canaria.

Stronger winds and rough seas

North-easterly winds will be light to moderate across much of the Canary Islands but could become strong along parts of the southeast and western coasts.

Conditions at sea will also remain unsettled in places.

Aemet forecasts north to north-easterly winds of force 5 to 6, occasionally reaching force 7, with moderate to rough seas and locally very rough conditions.

A north to north-easterly swell of between one and two metres is also expected.

Tenerife
Tenerife will enjoy mostly clear or sunny skies, with some low cloud possible in northern parts of the island.

Maximum temperatures will remain relatively stable in most areas, although it will become warmer at higher altitudes and on northern slopes.

Temperatures could reach 30°C in lower areas of southern Tenerife and across parts of the metropolitan area.

In general, the island is forecast to have a minimum of 23°C and maximum of 29°C.

Gran Canaria
Mostly clear skies are forecast across Gran Canaria, with some low cloud in the north and occasional high cloud elsewhere.

Temperatures will rise slightly in the mountains and on northern slopes, with highs of 30°C to 32°C expected in southern mid-altitude areas and the higher parts of the island.

Generally, temperatures will range between 23°C and 28°C.

Lanzarote
Lanzarote will see a mixture of low and high cloud, with long sunny spells developing during the afternoon.

Light calima is expected at altitude, while maximum temperatures will rise slightly, particularly inland.

Temperatures could reach 30°C in the southeast, while general temperatures are forecast to range between 22°C and 29°C.

Fuerteventura
Fuerteventura will also experience periods of low and high cloud, becoming clearer around midday and during the afternoon.

Light calima will remain present at higher levels, while temperatures could climb to between 30°C and 32°C in southeastern areas.

In general, temperatures are forecast to have a minimum of 21°C and maximum of 28°C.
