300 dumped mattresses cleared from Costa Calma streets

Clean-up crews have removed 300 mattresses and 22 tonnes of bulky waste from Costa Calma this month, prompting an appeal for residents and businesses to use the council’s free collection service.

The scale of the problem was revealed by Pájara Council on Friday, 23rd October, following three weeks of work in the Fuerteventura resort.

Alongside the mattresses, crews collected seven tonnes of household appliances, 12 tonnes of furniture and other bulky items, and three tonnes of iron from public streets and spaces.

The figures, recorded by cleaning contractors PreZero and FCC, highlight the continuing problem of unwanted items being abandoned in the locality.

Services councillor Salah Chehaib thanked staff for their daily efforts and urged the community to follow the proper arrangements when disposing of large household items.

Free collection is available

Residents and businesses needing to get rid of mattresses, appliances or furniture can arrange collection through the municipality’s free bulky-waste service.

The council is asking people to contact the service before putting unwanted items out, rather than leaving them on the street without an agreed collection.

Bookings can be arranged by calling 928 54 07 11.

Mayor Alejandro Jorge said cleaning services were being increased and highlighted the work taking place in Costa Calma.

The council’s message to households and businesses is straightforward: use the collection service and help keep the resort’s public spaces clear.
