Firefighters rescue man trapped in overturned car in Lanzarote

A man was rescued from an overturned car in Lanzarote yesterday afternoon (Wednesday) after firefighters used hydraulic tools to open the driver’s door.

The accident happened on the LZ-46 near Las Cadenas, in the La Vegueta area of Tinajo. Emergency services received the alarm at around 3:15pm.

When firefighters arrived, they found a single vehicle off the road with its occupant trapped inside, suspended by his seat belt.

Medical staff were already treating him, while Guardia Civil traffic officers and the Local Police secured the area.

Hydraulic tools used in rescue

After consulting the doctor attending the man, firefighters stabilised the vehicle and opened the driver’s door with hydraulic equipment to create enough space to reach him.

Working alongside the ambulance crew, they carefully removed him using a spinal board before transferring him to a stretcher.

The man suffered multiple injuries assessed as moderate during the initial medical examination. He was taken by medical ambulance to Hospital Doctor José Molina Orosa.

Once the rescue was complete, firefighters returned the vehicle to its wheels at the request of traffic officers.

The cause of the accident has not been disclosed. The man’s age and nationality have also not been released.
