A man, of whom no further information has been released, died last night (Friday), after drowning in the cove near Playa de San Juan, in the municipality of Guía de Isora in the south of Tenerife.
The incident happened just before 9.30pm last night when the Emergency Services operating room received an alert informing that there was a person in trouble in the sea by Playa San Juan beach, and he couldn’t get out of the water.
The Emergency Services Coordination Centre (Cecoes) immediately dispatched the necessary resources to the area, including a Maritime Rescue helicopter.
Because it was dark and the sea conditions were bad, the helicopter had to intervene and airlift the man from the water, who by this time had stopped breathing.
The crew on the helicopter administered CPR during the flight to Tenerife South Airport, where a medical team was waiting, but unfortunately, they could not revive him and could only confirm his death.
The Emergency Services remind people that weather warnings are in place all over the Canary Islands for strong winds which cause adverse seas conditions, and advise people to avoid swimming in the sea, especially when it’s dark.
