A ‘Spooktacular’ afternoon of celebration at the Tenerife Entertainment Awards 2024

The Tenerife Entertainment Awards, affectionately known as the TEAs, delivered an afternoon to remember on Sunday (17th November) at the Castillo San Miguel in the south of Tenerife. With a thrilling Halloween theme, the 17th annual awards ceremony celebrated the very best of Tenerife’s entertainment scene in a truly “spooktacular” fashion with a “thriller” of a show.

The Castillo San Miguel, already an impressive venue, transformed into a haunted castle for the afternoon as guests entered over the drawbridge and were greeted by the ‘Scare Tunnel’ that perfectly complemented the Halloween theme. From the moment they arrived, it was clear the afternoon was going to be a blend of elegance and fun, with a touch of fright.

Honouring Tenerife’s Finest

The TEAs have been a staple of Tenerife's entertainment calendar since 2006 recognising the incredible talent across the island, and this year was no different.

As the stage lit up with dazzling performances, the audience was reminded of why Tenerife is known for its vibrant entertainment industry. Nominees were treated to roaring applause, and the winners received their coveted awards amid cheers, laughter, and, in true Halloween style, a few ghostly surprises.

A Frighteningly Fantastic Show

The opening of the show was second to none, produced and directed by Tracey Cutting. From Oasis Fm’s Steve Ballard as Beetlejuice, to great vocal performances from Bobby H, Coco, and Michelle Terri, plus illusionist Oliver Van damme as Freddie Kruger, a stunning dance from Vivo Tango, and even an appearance from Tenerife strongman El Viking, all accompanied by dancers from Estrellas Theatre School, and it was definitely one to remember and set the scene perfectly for the rest of the awards ceremony.

Jenny T, also from Oasis Fm, effortlessly guided everyone through the day with her ‘Trophy Girls’, presenting the nominees and winners from the 12 categories that were being revealed, including, this year’s live vote category, Best Variety Act, which had three nominees performing 15-minute ‘mini’ shows to showcase the array of talent on the island.

First up was D’Art Espectaculos who represented Acrobatics with a three-part spectacular performance that wowed the audience. After them was the six-time winner of the category, Roxy Risque, representing Drag, who pulled out all the stops with an amazing show that included five different costumes including a 30m2 dress that filled the stage!

Finally, Tenerife dance shows took to the stage, representing Dance, with a fantastically sparkling performance that featured some amazing numbers from Lady Marmalade, to Whitney Houston, and ABBA, showcasing their versatility of song and dance.

Community Spirit in Full Force

One of the most heartwarming aspects of the TEAs is the sense of community it fosters, as the awards not only shine a spotlight on individual and group achievements but also bring together locals and visitors who share a passion for entertainment, with hundreds gathering to support and celebrate the people who make Tenerife’s nightlife and entertainment scene extraordinary.

The TEAs have always supported young talent, which was on display from Ritmania Fame Academy, who showed a sample of their award-winning performances at the Global Dance Finals in Amsterdam earlier this year, leaving the audience in awe.

However, this year was slightly different as the TEAs Hall of Fame was introduced, to recognise and honour some of the people who are no longer involved in the Tenerife entertainment scene, but helped shape it and make it what it is today, all introduced by previous Best Compere winner, Mike Carlton.

As the afternoon came to a close, the winners and attendees left the castle with smiles on their faces and memories to cherish, and headed to the Old Lodge for the after party until the early hours of the morning.
