The Guardia Civil have arrested a 37-year-old man and a 43-year-old woman from the same family in Agüimes in Gran Canaria, for the illegal possession and distribution of prohibited weapons after they confiscated 25 stun guns from their home that they had been selling online and delivering via post.

This investigation began in November 2021, when the Guardia Civil discovered a family who were importing, storing and selling prohibited weapons, mostly electric stun guns, on social media.

At the beginning of the investigation, the police set up a surveillance team that located and identified a man and a woman in Agüimes selling not only these weapons but also a non-approved ‘paralyzing spray’.

Although they had enough to arrest them, they continued to monitor them and discovered the channels they were using to post them to people all over the Canary Islands, and the number of weapons they were dealing in.

This monitoring resulted in the detection of a postal shipment in March to the couple which the Guardia intercepted and found it contained 10 x 5,000-volt electric stun guns and 15 x 980,000-volt weapons, all of them prohibited in Spain.

At the time of their arrest, officers found 25 different stun guns packaged and ready to sell, two of which are known as ‘electric fenders’ capable of projecting 980,000 volts, as well as the stun spray, which along with the full report of the investigation were handed over to Investigating Court No. 1 of Telde. The current Penal Code carries penalties of between 1 and 3 years in prison for this activity.
