The owners of a dental clinic in Tenerife have communicated that they are willing to report to the authorities, Irish citizens who are not residing in the Islands but have requested a dental appointment. They claim it is being used as a trick to bypass travel bans by having a medical appointment.
So far, at least 50 Irish people have telephoned or sent an email to book appointments at the Clinica Dental Tenerife Sur which is in Fairways Village in Golf Del Sur in the south of Tenerife, which they are presenting to authorities to be allowed to travel, which they then cancel after they have arrived on to the Island.
According to The Irish Times the numbers have grown since the Irish government started fining travellers 500 euros each for breach of the travel ban, which is soon to be 2,000 euros, for leaving the country without a "reasonable excuse".
“The last two weeks have been crazy. They are constantly calling and emailing,” said receptionist Roberta Beccaris. Later they realized what was happening, announcing that they will report the situation to the authorities.
The owners of the dental clinic, expressed that they understand why people are doing this, but that he doesn't want to be part of a fraudulent activity. On top of this he has reactivated staff to cater for the increase in demand, of which all appointments were cancelled.
