Torres does not rule out moving Tenerife to Level 3

The president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, said this morning, Wednesday, that he does not rule out that the Governing Council will decide to raise Tenerife to alert Level 3 (red traffic light), as there are some parameters that are at high risk, and it will be subject to a report written by Public Health committee analysts.

Speaking to the media after visiting the Recinto Ferial vaccination centre in Santa Cruz ahead of today’s Governing Council meeting, Torres said that he prefers to wait for the scientific reports and listen to the other members of the Governing Council to assess what restrictive measures will be taken on the island.

However, he said that the island will need good data for at least five days in a row to avoid it, because that is what sets the trend.

"The reality is that the last five days in Tenerife have gotten worse," admitted the president, who attributes the bad data from this island to the fact that there is a higher percentage of the young population without vaccination, in addition to a greater dispersion of the population, compared to other islands.
