Tenerife forest fire is finally under control

The emergency services and technicians in charge of the task of extinguishing the Arico forest fire have announced this lunchtime, that it is finally under control. Their work has focused on the control of hot spots on the perimeter in the last few hours, as reported by the Coordinating Centre for Emergencies and Security (Cecoes).

Meteorological conditions have been favourable this morning and the seaplanes and helicopters have been able to function properly by collecting water from the sea, which means the process has sped up compared to yesterday.

Yesterday they managed to stabilise the area to 3,300 hectares and the perimeter to 27 kilometres without it spreading, but now it is fully under control and all but out, but watering of the land continues to prevent it from re-igniting.

The president of the Canary Islands, Ángel Víctor Torres, has asked people to maintain caution by continuing to avoid the area, and has praised everyone involved saying they are doing "exceptional work.”

Finally, the Government of the Canary Islands has indicated that given the positive situation of the fire, the UME will return to Gran Canaria this afternoon leaving just the contingent from Tenerife.
