The SCS pass 1,000,000 vaccines administered in the Canary Islands

The Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands have updated their data which shows that 1,011,610 doses of vaccines against Covid-19 have now been administered to residents in the Canary Islands, with 316,361 people immunised having had two doses or the Janssen single-dose vaccine.

This figure represents 16.91% of the target adult population of almost 1.9 million people that are fully vaccinated, and 38.46% (719,526 people) that have now had at least one dose.

The vaccination schedule is now moving quickly with increased supply and availability of the four vaccines that the EU has authorised, and over a quarter of million people have registered with the Ministry of Health website for an advance appointment.

Even with this registration, the vaccination schedule is being developed by age group according to the National Vaccination Strategy against Covid-19, but it allows the process to be carried out quicker and smoother as the vaccines can be allocated in advance depending on proposed delivery, and schedules for mass vaccination centres in all of the islands can be created sooner rather than later.

Vaccination in all areas of all islands is continuous in the sense that when an age group is completed, they move straight on to the next without waiting for other areas. This means that vaccination of the under 50s has already started on the smaller islands, who will complete the immunisation of their population before the bigger islands.

Group coverage:
After complete immunization with two doses of groups 1 and 2, residents and workers of nursing homes and social health centres, and front-line health professionals, vaccination continues with the rest of the groups established following the criteria of vulnerability and exposure to the virus.

It should be noted that group 4, which is large household dependents, is now 94.15% immunized with two doses. Regarding group 5, people over 65 years old, 193,719 people have now received the two doses, which is 67.98%; while 279,902 have received at least one dose, which is 98.22%.

Group 3 (Non front-line health and social health personnel) is already 100% complete with one dose and 27.8% with two doses; and group 6, made up of 66,000 people, which includes teachers, firefighters, and policemen, has 63.77% with one dose after inoculation was suspended due to the AstraZeneca investigation.

In Group 7, which is the population under 60 years with severe health conditions, there are 11,672 people who have been vaccinated with one dose, which is 65.81% of the total, whilst 45.18% of 60 to 65-year-olds (group 8) have been fully immunised, and 65.13% have had one dose. Vaccination has just started of group 9 which is 50 to 59-year-olds, and already 30.97% have had one dose, which means that 108,558 people in that age group have already been inoculated.
