The Ministry of Health of the Government of the Canary Islands has reported that the Nursing teams of the Canary Health Service (SCS) have now administered a total of 2,783,279 doses of vaccines, and that 80.90% of the target population in the Archipelago (those aged 12 over which is 1,960,774 people) which is 1,586,348 people, have received at least one dose of the vaccine against Covid-19.
This means that 84.78% of those over 16 years of age (who were the target population when the campaign began) have had at least one dose.
In addition, up until yesterday, there are 1,348,584 people who have already received their complete vaccination schedule and have been immunized, which represents 68.80% of the target population aged 12 and over.
At present, Groups from 1 to 7 are all now classed as fully vaccinated with two doses, as between 99.5 and 100% of the people that make up those groups have been immunised. These cover the more vulnerable people, residents of nursing homes, front line workers, teachers, police, and other essential workers, and anyone over 66 years of age.
In the rest of the age groups, the situation is as follows:
- Group 8: People between 60 and 65 years old: 81.97% with at least one dose and 58.52% with a complete regimen. This group is now catching up after the delay due to AstraZeneca tests, and the 12 weeks in between jabs.
- Group 9: People between 50 and 59 years old: 94.38% with at least one dose and 94.54% with a complete regimen. The second figure is higher because some have had the Janssen single dose vaccine.
- Group 10: People between 40 and 49 years old: 58.45 % with at least one dose and 72.99 % with a complete regimen. The second figure is higher because some have had the Janssen single dose vaccine.
- Group 11: People between 30 and 39 years old: 61.10% with at least one dose and 47.46% with a complete regimen.
- Group 12: People between 20 and 29 years old: 55.40% with one dose and 31.91% with a complete regimen.
- Group 13: People between 12 and 19 years old: 61.70% with a dose and 10.88% with a complete regimen.
It is important to remember that the time period between jabs is as follows:
AstraZeneca: 12 weeks
Moderna: 4 weeks
Pfizer: 3 weeks
Janssen: 0 weeks (single dose vaccine)
These periods between the two is why some groups seem slower than others and why some groups have fully vaccinated figures higher than first dose. In the next couple of weeks they will accelerate again as the dates for second jabs come around.
The importance of vaccination:
At this time, the vaccination campaign continues and the Ministry of Health insists on the need for citizens not to miss their appointments to get vaccinated or to go to the multiple vaccination points without an appointment that there are on all the islands. They want to remind that more than 70% of those hospitalized with Covid are that are not immunized, and that 77% of ICU admissions in Canarian hospitals are unimmunized people.
