Mercadona opened a new efficient supermarket in Cabo Blanco in the municipality of Arona in the south of Tenerife on Monday after an investment of 1.3 million euros and the participation of 40 suppliers who have employed 210 people to complete it. This store replaces the existing that the company had just a few metres away, on the main road through Cabo Blanco.
In addition to guaranteeing the positions of the 43-person workforce from the previous supermarket, the new store has generated 8 new additional quality jobs and opens with the 'New Efficient Mercadona Store Model'.
This reinforces excellence in service and optimizes the act of purchasing for its customers, presents improvements from which both the 'bosses' (the customers), as well as workers, suppliers and society benefit.
For this, it has news in all its sections with a new delicatessen with sliced and packed ham, a central gondola in the perfumery area for specialized cosmetics, a freshly squeezed orange juice service, sushi specialities, a new oven section with bread slicer and pastry, and a new display in the fishmonger for shellfish products.
Also, this store, which has a large central patio with natural light, incorporates the new 'Ready to Eat' section, which has a total of 35 different dishes served in containers made with natural materials, such as sugar cane (compostable material), cardboard or paper.
The company has arranged a rest area in the same supermarket with tables and chairs where customers can consume a freshly prepared dish and accompany it with cold drinks, an area that already only exists in 13 other supermarkets in the islands.
In addition, the Cabo Blanco supermarket has, among other improvements, a new entrance with double glazing that prevents drafts, has wider aisles and new ergonomic models of shopping baskets and trollies.
ENERGY SAVING: ECO-EFFICIENT SHOP
At an environmental level, measures have been taken to reduce energy consumption by up to 40% compared to the conventional store model, due to the improvement of thermal and acoustic insulation, optimizing materials and the thickness of walls and ceilings and with new storage areas which are more energy-efficient and environmentally friendly for frozen foods.
In addition, it has an automated LED lighting system that is regulated according to zones and times of the day, for much more efficient energy management.
The opening hours of this supermarket are from Monday to Saturday, from 9am to 9:30pm with a 147-space car park, four of them with a recharging point. for electric vehicles.
At the end of 2020, Mercadona invested more than 1.1 billion euros both for the reformation and opening of new supermarkets with this new 'Efficient Store Model'.
MERCADONA IN THE CANARY ISLANDS
Mercadona has 85 supermarkets and two logistics centres in the Canary Islands, employing 4,637 people with stable and quality employment. In addition, in the last three years, it has invested more than 153.5 million euros, in the growth and modernization of its network of stores.
The company maintains a social commitment with the residents of the areas in which it has a presence and activity, and in the case of the Canary Islands, last year it donated 780 tons of food to soup kitchens and charities on the islands.
