VIDEO: New eruption at the main vent of the La Palma volcano tonight

The Canary Islands Volcanological Institute (INVOLCAN) has captured the exact moment of a new eruption from the main vent where the volcano started on Sunday in La Palma, which they have shared on Twitter. The main activity is currently concentrated in four eruptive points, the last of which opened yesterday at 8pm. This new centre is showing effusive activity and the lava from it is flowing parallel to the previous flows.

An approximate average advancement of the front of the lava flow is 200 metres every hour has been verified, as it continues crawling towards the sea, and in some places it is 10-12 metres thick.

Experts say that this evening the volcanic tremors are showing signs of decreasing in amplitude at seismic stations, probably due to the concentration of strombolian activity in a smaller number of centres. Likewise, it is found that the deformations have decreased their speed, showing relative stability in the last 12 hours, at an average cumulative maximum of 28cm.

Regarding the meteorological conditions, in the last few hours there has been a change in the direction of the wind in the lower-middle levels of the troposphere, at around 3,000 metres, turning from west to north/northeast, causing a displacement of the plume to the southwest of the emission source.
