More major traffic diversions on the TF-1 at Las Chafiras from tomorrow

The Ministry of Transport for the Canary Islands will divert the main TF-1 motorway for two nights this week, so work can be done on the third lane of the TF-1 southern carriageway, between San Isidro and Las Américas, in the municipality of San Miguel de Abona.

The General Directorate of Road Infrastructure wants to take advantage of the significant drop in traffic density, which at the moment is only 45,000 vehicles on average per day, less than half during the rest of the year, to undertake construction of the underpass at the Oroteanda junction.

To do this, a diversion will be made between the Cho junction (Parque de La Reina) and the Las Chafiras junction for two nights, from 10pm to 6am the next day, starting tomorrow evening, August 24th whilst working on the northbound carriageway, and then on Wednesday night, August 25th, work will be carried out overnight on the other side of the motorway, heading towards Los Cris Cristianos.

The Ministry informs that these diversions are being made to guarantee the safety of the works and make the junctions between the current highway and the 'bypass', thus, it is necessary to remove all the traffic between the Las Chafiras junction (exit 62) and the Parque de la Reina-Cho junction (exit 65), taking all traffic through the Las Chafiras industrial park and on the TF-655 back road.

During these two night days, asphalting work, movement of concrete barriers, and the placement of the corresponding horizontal and vertical signage will be carried out to give access to traffic. The estimated duration of the works, which will be carried out to execute the Oroteanda underpass, is two and a half months.

The works to be carried out will mean a significant relief of traffic from the Las Chafiras junction, and will allow users in the area to have new entrances and exits to and from the TF-1 motorway.
