The City Council of Granadilla de Abona re-opened the central beach in El Médano yesterday after it was closed because a contamination index for E-Coli was above that allowed by the Canary Islands Sanitary Inspection Service in a test of the water.
They have ensured that it was a localised event since the rest of the beaches in the area remained open as the analytics were correct. After the company awarded the water analysis service in the bathing areas of the municipality, which is carried out by the Council twice a week every week, retested the water on Thursday, they have confirmed that it is suitable for bathing.
In a statement, Granadilla town hall has said that the beach was closed for one day, as a “precautionary measure and in order to guarantee adequate levels of security for the population. It was related to the emissaries detected in the area, and they are already investigating the cause of it.”
