Jet2 cancels all flights to La Palma just months after launch

Jet2 has confirmed it is withdrawing its flights and holiday packages to La Palma, just six months after launching its first direct service to the island from Manchester.

The decision means the existing Manchester route will end on 30th October 2026, while plans to introduce flights from London Stansted have been cancelled before the service has even begun.

The unexpected withdrawal is a significant setback for La Palma's tourism industry, which had welcomed Jet2's arrival as an important opportunity to attract more British holidaymakers.

Manchester flights to end this month

Jet2 launched its Manchester to La Palma service on 3rd April 2026, operating twice weekly on Mondays and Fridays.

The airline had originally planned to operate the route throughout the year, providing a direct connection between the north of England and the island.

However, the final scheduled service is now expected on 30th October, bringing the operation to an end after less than seven months.

The company has also abandoned its planned London Stansted route, which was intended to provide a second direct connection with the UK.

Both services were originally announced in June 2025 as part of Jet2's expansion into La Palma, making it the airline's fifth Canary Islands destination.

Airline cites operational reasons

Jet2 has attributed the decision to unavoidable operational reasons and changes to its flight programme.

The airline has confirmed that affected passengers and travel agents are being contacted regarding their bookings.

Customers are being offered alternative holiday arrangements or a full refund, depending on their circumstances.

Passengers who have booked flights or package holidays to La Palma are advised to check their booking details and contact Jet2 or their travel agent if they have not received an update.

Setback for British tourism to La Palma

The decision is particularly disappointing for the island's tourism sector, which had been working to strengthen its connections with the British market.

The introduction of Jet2 services was expected to help increase visitor numbers, support local hotels and businesses, and provide British holidaymakers with more convenient access to La Palma.

Local tourism representatives have expressed disappointment at the withdrawal, which comes just as the important winter holiday season approaches.

The loss of the two routes also reduces the island's direct air connections with the UK, although Jet2 continues to serve other Canary Islands destinations.

For British travellers, the cancellation removes a recently introduced holiday option and highlights the importance of checking airline schedules before making future travel arrangements.
