Tomás Gimeno, the father of the two girls who disappeared on April 27th in Tenerife and who he allegedly kidnapped, hired a detective agency to spy on the movements of the girls' mother, Beatriz Zimmermann, last summer. This has been confirmed by the agency itself who have stepped forward and are now actively collaborating with the authorities that are handling the case.
The agency has released a statement because various media are questioning the fact that the detective in question hasn’t been named. The agency said: “Due to the controversy in recent days, where it had been published in various media that we have not named the detective that Gimeno had hired, that is because he is under the secrecy act. We can only confirm that Tomás Gimeno requested a legitimate personal service last July for surveillance of his ex-partner and his children.”
The agency is collaborating with the special agents of the Guardia Civil, but no further details have been made public.
The theory that Gimeno is still in Tenerife is gaining strength:
Small details of the investigation that is being carried out to find Anna and Olivia continue to come to light. Yesterday the Guardia Civil had access to his mobile phone records and haven’t found any suspicious messages or calls that indicate him preparing an escape or any help from an accomplice.
They have been able to confirm that the he exchanged several calls that afternoon with his ex-partner, Anna and Olivia's mother, in addition to several messages late at night with some friends, in a farewell tone. It is something that José María Benito, the spokesman for the Federal Union of Police, was able to confirm yesterday afternoon.
In addition, and as Benito has pointed out, the hypothesis among researchers that Gimeno has not left the island is gaining strength, hence the search in Tenerife has been increased.
"If Tomás is in Cape Verde, we will find him and notify the authorities"
The head of the judicial police in San Vicente (Cape Verde), Silva dos Reis Tavares, was very clear yesterday when asked about the possibility of Tomás Gimeno and his two daughters being on his island by TV program Buenas Tardes Canarias.
Investigators are still following the possibility that Gimeno is in San Vicente and that a sailboat picked him up in front of the Puertito de Güímar, where he travelled to that morning in his speed boat that appeared empty the next day, as part of a preconceived plan to flee the island, either alone or in the company of the girls.
As for why San Vicente, because a sailboat left that morning from Gran Canaria and, instead of going directly to this island (where it docked a week ago), it wandered near Tenerife and was detected at dawn near Candelaria. As to whether this is the right clue, the Cape Verdean policeman limited himself to replying: "I have to ensure the secrecy of the investigations."
