The strength of the high tide hit Las Galletas in Arona yesterday, causing the partial collapse of the promenade on the Avenida del Atlántico. The Security Councillor of the Arona Council, Francisco Marichal, reported that technicians from the corporation and staff from the Tenerife Cabildo have been sent to the area to assess the damage and take the appropriate measures to repair the damage.
The Local Police fenced off the area, and one of the lanes of traffic had to be closed, but it is expected that after the weekend, and after high tide, work will begin to repair the damage and that both the promenade and the road will be operational again as soon as possible, said Marichal.
For the moment, the downhill lane to Las Galletas has been left open and to leave the town centre, vehicles will have to take a diversion along the road towards Las Rosas.
BURST WATER PIPE BY TF-1:
The Tenerife Cabildo has also reported of a burst water pipe used for regenerated water (already previously treated) for agricultural irrigation by the Guaza roundabout and the TF-1 in Arona, which led to partial flooding of the roads that pass under the motorway.
The Councilor for Agriculture, Javier Parrilla, said that “technicians from Balsas de Tenerife (Balten) have inspected the land and are taking the appropriate measures to resolve the incident as quickly as possible”.
Due to this break, the supply of regenerated water for agricultural irrigation from the Adeje-Arona treatment plant, which reaches the Valle de San Lorenzo reservoir, has been provisionally cut off, the Cabildo reported.
