Government set to extend mortgage and consumer loan moratoriums

The Vice President of Economic Affairs, Nadia Calviño, announced yesterday (Monday), that the Government are about to approve a measure to allow people to request moratoriums on the payment of their mortgages and consumer loans until March 31st.

“We are working on an extension of the employment regulation records mechanism (ERTE). Likewise, we will soon approve the extension of the moratoriums on mortgage and non-mortgage loans until March 31st, in line with the recently approved European framework,” she explained.

The Government already implemented the mortgage moratorium and the consumer credit moratorium at the beginning of the pandemic to ease the burden on families most affected by the slowdown in economic activity, and in July, extended them so that they could be requested until September 29th 2020.

Recently Unidas Podemos demanded that the PSOE Government recover some of the measures that ended last September, such as the moratoriums for mortgage and non-mortgage loans, to face the social and economic consequences that the third wave of the virus is causing.

Calviño made these statements to the media before participating in a meeting by videoconference of the ministers of Economy and Finance of the euro zone (Eurogroup) in which the Nineteen will debate, among other issues, the measures they have deployed to face the crisis caused by the coronavirus pandemic.
