A five-year-old boy suffered a cardio-respiratory arrest whilst in a hotel pool in Costa Adeje in the south of Tenerife yesterday (Tuesday), as confirmed by the emergency services, and is now in a serious condition at the Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria University Hospital.
As paramedics arrived at the hotel following an emergency 112 call, the pool lifeguard was performing basic CPR manoeuvres on the child, following the instructions of the SUC health coordinator, until the arrival of the ambulance personnel who continued with his resuscitation.
Once at the pool, the doctor and nurse of the medicalized ambulance began advanced CPR and managed to recover the boy. Once stabilized, he was transferred to the helipad at the Adeje Fire Station, where a medicalized helicopter from the SUC was waiting, which took him to the Nuestra Señora de La Candelaria University Hospital, where a Pediatric team was waiting for him.
The 5-year-old is currently still in hospital in a serious, but not critical condition, and paramedics have praised the quick actions of the hotel's lifeguard which saved the boys life.
