The Ministry of Health has notified of 184 new outbreaks in the last week in the Canary Islands, which represents a significant decrease compared to those notified seven days ago, which was 271. However, to the 184 new outbreaks, 48 existing ones must be added, which makes 232 that are currently being tracked.
In total, the new outbreaks have 979 active cases associated with them, which is also far from the 1,351 of the previous week. Of these new outbreaks, 89 are on the island of Gran Canaria, 76 in Tenerife, 8 in Fuerteventura, 8 in Lanzarote and 3 n La Palma.
By area in which they have occurred, 91 are family outbreaks, most of them from different homes; 57 are from social situations (which includes meeting in bars etc); 20 work-related which also have family ramifications in most of them; 10 in socially vulnerable groups; two health outbreaks; two of a sports nature, one educational and one socio-health.
In a generic way, the number of outbreaks has decreased, as has happened with the accumulated incidents at 7 and 14 days and, also, the number of people involved in each outbreak has decreased. More than 70% of the outbreaks this week have between three and five people associated with them, and only 15 outbreaks have more than 10 people infected.
Some of the notable ones are as follows:
- Two are related to boats in Las Palmas in Gran Canaria, one of a fishing boat with 26 people infected and another of a cargo ship with three affected.
- There is one related to a nightlife venue in the municipality of Adeje with 11 infected. It has been confirmed that it started at a party at the venue and affects one of the bar staff/waiters and several customers and their families.
- Another similar outbreak has occurred in a nightclub in the municipality of Pájara in Fuerteventura with 6 people infected.
- There are two sport outbreaks in Gran Canaria this week: one related to football with 4 infected in Las Palmas, and the other with kick-boxing in Telde with three people involved.
- Finally, one of the health outbreaks affects the Bellevue Hospital in Puerto de la Cruz with 12 patients infected, and the other at the Canarias University Hospital with three patients and a worker affected.
