Just 5 days, or a third of the time in to the implementation of Level 3 restrictions in Tenerife, the latest data from the Ministry of Health does not point towards an improvement in the epidemiological situation on the island, in fact it seems to be getting worse, but are there also signs of a spike in infections in Gran Canaria and Lanzarote?
The Ministry have reported of 292 new infections in the Canary Islands today of which 209 (71%) of them are in Tenerife. However that represents a smaller percentage in one island, as Gran Canaria has 58 and Fuerteventura has 21, an increase in their data for the second day running. Lanzarote has just 4 new cases, and none have been reported in La Palma, La Gomera, or El Hierro.
Active cases have increased slightly, hospital and ICU occupancies have decreased slightly, and one Covid related death has been reported of a 90-year-old woman in Tenerife, who was associated with a family outbreak, and was admitted to hospital.
Active cases have also increased in the south of Tenerife where there are now almost 350 people infected (not including the residents from the shelter staying in Los Olivos), and after Santa Cruz and La Laguna, the three most infected municipalities in Tenerife are Adeje, Granadilla and Arona (see stats below).
