Covid update: 14 day incidence rates are continuing to rise in the Canaries

The Canary Islands has finished the week with 94 new cases of coronavirus in the last 24 hours, active cases nearly at 1,000 after a low number of medical discharges again, and the four main islands with an IA14 of 50 or over, after a strange week that has seen cases gradually increase to just below or just above 100 a day.

For the first time in a very long time there were new cases today in all of the islands, with Tenerife having the most with 37, 34 in Gran Canaria, 14 in Lanzarote, 5 in Fuerteventura, 2 in La Gomera, 1 in La Palma, and 1 in El Hierro.

As you can see from the graph below, the 14-day incidence rate has steadily increased in the bigger islands as indicated by the top four lines, and the light blue one, which is for the islands as a whole.

Obviously, more cases are expected as the season changes and viruses become more active, which is why the SCS are giving Covid booster jabs and flu jabs at the same time, but the key is keeping them at a controllable level so that the islands stay in Level 1 through Christmas and the New Year, then more restrictions can be eased at the start of 2022.
