Covid update: 187 new cases and 2 deaths in the Canary Islands

The Ministry of Health has confirmed 187 new cases of coronavirus today in the Canary Islands, taking the total number of accumulated cases to 59,190 with 2,140 active, of which 20 are admitted to ICU, 191 remain hospitalized and 1,929 are in home isolation. In the 24 last hours, there have been two Covid related deaths in Tenerife, a 71-year-old woman and a 74-year-old man, both associated to outbreaks and already hospitalized.

The Accumulated Incidence rate at 7 days in the Canary Islands now stands at 50.18 cases, which is above the ‘magic’ 50 which is required for tourism, and over 14 days at 94.30 cases per 100,000 inhabitants.

Tenerife continues to be the island causing the archipelago problems, and today’s data shows a continuation in the upward trend with 152 new cases detected, which is 81% of the total, compared to 25 in Gran Canaria, 8 in Lanzarote, 2 in Fuerteventura, and none in La Palma, La Gomera, or El Hierro.
