The Ministry of Health has informed that in the last two weeks 536 people who were already fully vaccinated have contracted the coronavirus in the Canary Islands, which is 10% of the 5,357 cases reported in the last 14 days. They also remind that this is expected as the vaccines have approximately 90% efficacy against the virus, so they don’t stop you from getting it or passing it on, but they do give you protection and reduce hospitalisations.
This is highlighted by the fact that only 21 of the 536 required admission to hospital, and none reached ICU. This data is provided by Health in the follow-up that it has been carrying out so far this month, two weeks in which the infections have raised the accumulated incidence in the islands to high-risk levels not seen before.
Of the people infected at this moment in time, 1,413 have had one dose of a vaccine, which is 17.2% of the total, while 3,821 (72%), have not been inoculated with any vaccine as yet. Of the total number of reported cases, 123 (2.3%) had to be hospitalized. Of these, 76 were not vaccinated, while 21 have been.
