Covid update: 634 new cases on day that curfew is rejected by TSJC

The Canary Islands continues to accumulate record numbers of new cases of Covid, and today adds the highest number of the entire pandemic with 634 new infections in the last 24 hours beating the previous record of 540 cases last Friday, July 9th. The islands have also confirmed of one Covid related death in Tenerife, which brings the total to 795, however, the positive is the 291 medical discharges today.

As of today there are 6,489 active cases in the islands (342 more than yesterday) of which 40 are admitted to Intensive Care, 260 are in the hospital wards, and 6,189 are in home isolation, according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health.

Tenerife now accounts for 64% of all active cases on the islands compared to 26% in Gran Canaria, and the IA7 for the islands has risen to 159.79 cases per 100,000 inhabitants, and the IA14 is at 266.27.

These figures arrive on the eve of the next Governing Council meeting, which will take place tomorrow, Thursday, in which it will be decided which Islands will their epidemiological alert level either raised or lowered, and on the day that the Superior Court (TSJC) rejected a curfew in Levels 3 and 4.

By islands, Tenerife adds the most it has done in one day with 333 new cases, Gran Canaria has 224, there are 41 in Fuerteventura, 22 in Lanzarote, 13 in La Palma, and 1 in la Gomera.

The Ministry of Health is asking anyone in Lanzarote over the age of 16 who hasn’t yet been vaccinated, to register online as they are now starting to schedule appointments for that age group.
