Covid update: New cases drop to 4,326 but with 14 deaths today

The Canary Islands has ended the week with a fall in new cases to 4,326 in the last 24 hours, of which Gran Canaria has the most with 1,907 followed by Tenerife with 1,555. Lanzarote has added 338 new cases, La Palma has 314, Fuerteventura 172, El Hierro 26, and La Gomera 14.

Regarding the death of 14 people, eight were men and six were women all aged between 61 and 90 years old. Eight people died in Tenerife, three in Gran Canaria, two in La Palma, and one in Lanzarote, all had previous pathologies and were hospitalised due to Covid.

Since releasing Monday’s figures regarding teachers with Covid after the Christmas holidays, the numbers have been updated. Currently 5% of teachers in the Canary Islands now have Covid, which is 1,570 out of a total of 31,265 teachers; and 2.4% of students (8,156 of 337,810) enrolled in the Canary Islands.

However, there are only 0.1% of classes quarantined in the Archipelago as of yesterday, Thursday, according to the latest data provided by the archipelago's educational centres, which relates to just 23 of 16,911 classes in the islands.
