Covid update: The Canary Islands adds 407 new cases and two deaths

The Canary Islands have registered 407 new cases of Covid-19 in the last 24 hours, with 5,508 active, of which 37 are admitted to the ICU, 231 are hospitalized, and 5,238 are in home isolation according to the latest data from the Ministry of Health of the Canary Islands.

Two Covid related deaths have been reported in Tenerife today after several days without registering any, so the total number of deaths in the Islands since the start of the pandemic rises to 795, of which 443 have been in Tenerife; 276 in Gran Canaria; 49 in Lanzarote; 13 in Fuerteventura; 7 in La Palma; 4 in El Hierro, and 1 in La Gomera.

Today they have also given the information of new cases by age group as follows:
28 of the new infections registered in the last 24 hours have occurred in minors from 0 to 9 years old;
97 are between 10 to 19 years old;
103 are in young people between 20 and 29 years old;
72 are adults between 30 and 39 years old;
54 between 40 and 49 years old;
28 are between 50 and 59 years old;
19 between 50 and 69 years old;
4 people aged between 70 and 79 years old;
2 in the age group over 80 years old.

There is no update for vaccinations today as there is mass vaccination again for 40 to 59-year-olds in Tenerife and Gran Canaria. Earlier this morning some people under 40 turned up to see if they could be injected but were turned away. The Ministry Of Health has explained that this is because the Janssen single-dose vaccine is only for over 40’s so there was no availability at these centres.
