The president of the Cabildo de Tenerife, Pedro Martín, has explained that Tenerife currently has more than half a million places scheduled with airlines from Germany, Denmark and the Netherlands, for tourists to come to the island after their respective governments announced the lifting of travel restrictions to the Canary Islands on Friday.
Martín assures that the announcements made by these three countries is "very good news and the beginning of the season after the forced closings and now with the advance of vaccinations." So far there are flights with 443,145 seats available from Germany, 79,343 from the Netherlands and 13,872 from Denmark.
"These 536,360 places are already reserved and scheduled by airlines and tour operators, and will begin to fill straight away with tourists," says Martín, who is convinced that, "taking into account the positioning that our destination is acquiring, and with our new strategies, the number of seats will increase as tourism demand grows. We said it before the Thomas Cook went bankrupt: Tenerife does not have a connectivity problem, what is missing is that tourists arrive, and the proof is that we are prepared to return to tourism", he adds.
Martín also points out that the Cabildo is carrying out "a specific monitoring of the online searches carried out from these countries, which inevitably increase whenever good news is produced." He adds that "Tenerife has equipped itself with the most powerful tools to carry out an accurate monitoring of each market and offer products adapted to each one, so we are convinced that the campaigns destined for Germany and northern European countries will have enough impact to translate into ticket sales and accommodation bookings”.
Martin continued: "the next Aviation Event, on June 11th here in Tenerife, will bring together a wide range of key players from the world of aviation, tour operators and tourism, with a strong representation from Central Europe which will mean the visibility of our destination with a view to the reopening of the continent's markets, and they will see that Tenerife is a destination prepared and equipped to satisfy the demand of a tourist who wants to reconnect with their desire to travel”.
In the same way, he said that the Cabildo, through Turismo de Tenerife, is preparing two ambitious 'road shows'; one for Germany and the other for the Nordic countries: “This is an action that aims to transfer a representation of the entire value chain of Tenerife tourism (hoteliers, leisure sector, business, etc.) to these important source markets.”
"The objective is to communicate to tour operators, airlines, travel agencies and local travel portals, as well as specialized media, first-hand, everything that Tenerife offers and how important its market is, mainly the German one, where we have a wide margin for growth, and where we are focusing a large part of our strategy, with the largest campaign ever carried out by Tenerife.”
Alongside this, the president also assures that the “offensive to continue attracting the Central European markets will not stop there. In November, the most prestigious tourism publication in Germany, FVB, will hold its important congress on our island, with the presence of the main tour operators, agencies and representatives of the German tourism sector, which will also help to improve our commitment to the German market”.
