Moderate rain is expected across the northern parts of the Canary Islands today, Friday, according to the State Meteorological Agency (AEMET), with strong winds also forecast in exposed areas.
Forecasters say north-easterly winds will dominate across the archipelago, with the possibility of occasionally very strong gusts in the north-west and south-east slopes of the mountainous islands, as well as in exposed areas of Lanzarote and Fuerteventura.
Rain mainly in the north
In the northern areas of the mountainous islands, skies will be mostly cloudy with moderate rainfall during the morning, easing to lighter and more occasional showers after midday.
Elsewhere across the islands, skies will be cloudy early in the morning with a slight chance of light rain, before improving to partly cloudy conditions for the rest of the day.
Temperatures are expected to remain largely unchanged or fall slightly, with weak frost still possible in the central peaks of Tenerife.
Rough seas and coastal warning
Sea conditions will also remain unsettled. Northerly to north-easterly winds of force 4 to 5, locally force 6, are expected, strengthening to force 5 to 6 overnight, with occasional force 7 winds offshore later in the day.
The sea state will increase from moderate to rough, with a north swell of 1 to 2 metres rising to 2 to 3 metres later, along with occasional showers reducing visibility.
Due to the conditions, AEMET has issued a yellow warning for rough seas across the Canary Islands.
